[Final Day] Endgame

And just as suddenly as everything had began, the demons are gone—all of them. Not a single crow feather remains. As if being sucked backwards out of a vacuum, sound and light flood into the room and the hallway, crashing down on you. You are back in the real world, with noise and physics and sunlight streaming in through the window.

You are also left with two bereft Bellcourt children, the older of which is suddenly doubling over in his wheelchair and shouting in anguish.

David wraps his arms around you, shakily, squeezing tight.

David presses his eyes tightly closed, nodding.

". . . we'll talk in a sec," he mutters, hoarsely. "Damn. Don't go anywhere, I'll really kill you."

There is crying and a lot of hugging and more hugging and some insulting. But David seems pretty okay about everything. He's keeping his eyes closed in the bright room, so you can't read the expression in them, but even though his eyelashes are damp, he doesn't seem depressed.

After some time talking to her, he moves back over to his bed, pulling himself up onto it. Eyes still closed, he tracks you with some other sense, face turning to you.

"Hey, Kazuki, come here."

[goes over, kneeling down to be next to David.]

Okay?

David picks up his pillow and beats the shit out of you with it.

Tell me something I don't know! Should you even be talking to me?!

"I'm not going to not talk to you, this is the first time I've ever actually been able to talk to you for real, I only get to see you every couple of months at most, I'm not going to not talk to you!"

"You!" SMACK. "Are so!" SMACK. "Stupid!"

David may or may not be sobbing as he beats you senseless but at least he's using the pillow and there are no claws involved.

Hey! We can't talk if you're beating me up!

"We can definitely talk if I'm beating you up," David informs him seriously, but seems to be calming down again very quickly. He opens his eyes a little, squinting and trying to focus on your face.

Jeez, don't look. It's probably awful.

[covers his eye]

David catches your wrist, pulling at it, leaning in to try to see. "It's . . . fine," he says. "But . . . why'd you do it, though?"

[resists a little, but then lets.. that happen, I guess. :/]

Why do you THINK? I hear you've been kidnapped by crows, Lucia's being blamed for something I did, and there wasn't exactly much time to do anything!

David leans a little closer, examining it. ". . . and this was your answer?" He's a little quiet, though.

Yeah.

"Well . . . ugh," David sighs, slumping backwards. "I guess I can't even get mad at you."

[you're in my face!!! but leans forward to follow his slump.]

I'm mad at me.

"Don't be," says David. "I don't want any more people hating themselves and having regrets, alright? I'm just really sick of it."

. . . I dunno. You have a lot more to lose than I do, and I nearly messed that up.
