[Final Day] Endgame

There is a noise like broken glass as the giant shadowy snake wavers in place, then falls over, hitting the roof so hard that dust billows up on on various levels of existence, making the whole building shake. You begin to see more people all around you—flickering, as if the layers are merging into one, the separations between them vanishing.

Superimposed over the snake's fading body—yes, there is, in fact, a giant shadow snake, visible to everyone now, even those who had just been fighting Mithos—is a man in a labcoat bending over on his knees, shuddering and grasping at the ground.

"Sssssss . . . thissssss . . ."

He jerks abruptly, then sags a little more, as if losing energy, trying to force his eyes to stay open, but . . .

There are bandages! Mostly the band-aid kind, but. Jeez, Fon, go get those fingers looked at by Sera or something if you haven't already.

[I haven't. I also got grazed by GIANT SNAKE, but I'm a teenager in a kids' hospital, I'm sure someone will provide proper medical attention eventually]

It's fine. You didn't cause me any harm, you were merely difficult to communicate with.

I suppose that might have been awkward, but it turned out all right. What happened?

I'm... programmed, but it went wrong so the program takes independent action at times. It's survival and goal-oriented, its main goal is back in my own world, do it'll act according to what will return me to Ilegenes faster.

I see. So when you dealt with the sigil, the program took over?

Yes. The walls tried to draw me in... it tells you its safe-- when I was starting to give up, the program overrode me and took over.
