[Day 4] Hell

Some of you are discussing serious lawyering with the most serious lawyer. Others are reuniting with old friends, or meeting new ones(?) . . . and some of you are just flat-out riding bad decision dinosaur trains.

David glances at him uncomfortably. "You don't know?"

I know about the family politics, but I still have memory blanks on a lot of it.

"I guess you weren't around," says David, laughing a little uncomfortably and rubbing the back of his neck. "Well as a quick rundown . . . Lucy found the thing when she was nine. I was thirteen. I . . . was badly damaged in the incident, unsealing our . . . friend." His mouth twists. "I went into a coma. And he fed off of me for five years."

He gestures down at himself. "I became something that wasn't human anymore as a result."

"Not so much . . ." David says, slowly. "He was driven away by some of your friends . . . but then after that, yes, we haven't heard from him since."

Gears are turning.

David narrows his eyes slightly and just nods.

". . . what do you want out of all of this?" he asks abruptly, after a moment.

I would like to get you all out of here. I was dragged in to help, so I intend to do that.

David laughs a little, dryly. "You're all . . . very strange," he admits. "The fact that you actually want to help us when you just keep getting dragged over here."
