"More than you can offer," Tristan replies promptly. "Though I have considered trying to pawn some of you off, it wouldn't do well in the long run for me. Also, theoretically, I do have enough power stored up to make a hefty payment, but that's not really what I want out of this entire situation, either."

Tristan pauses to consider this for a long moment. "Hell is everywhere you go," he says, finally, "when you're a demon. Once they decided they wanted me—I wouldn't be allowed to go about things like normal. Yes, maybe for another hundred years, even, but I would never stop being hunted." He pauses. "Also, I told you before, everyone has their weak points."
