I'm pretty convinced it's David and, because Itachi apparently wouldn't want his brother separated from him, and for all that David's talk he could've just had the best intentions in "eating" Itachi's brother's team. You know, like he was intending to just keep Sasuke safe for Itachi and they needed to pick a sheep, but it backfired.
