So You Have Some Questions About Demonverse: A FAQ
So you are new to demonverse, or maybe old hat to demonverse and just want to read this for the fun of it! I made a post for you to help you with things that you might have questions about generally!
What IS this Demonverse thing?
It's an online roleplaying campaign with a paranormal bent and allowing multi-fandom characters (from certain pre-existing journal games). We generally run one session every 3-4 months and they usually last around four days per session. There is an ongoing plot, but frequently it occurs in loosely-connected arcs which are building towards an overall story. You never know which NPCs are going to be involved until you play it.
Oh Man What Characters Are Okay To Play
We are basically pretty flexible on everyone who isn't a Thematic Godmode. We generally won't allow anyone who belongs to the demonic-supernatural horror genre and has godmode powers within it. That said, we have had both extremely powerful characters and totally mundane ones play in the past. Powers, though, are rarely important. Much more important is the personality to get active in NPC lives and investigate settings, since those are the two most-used skills.
I'd say that for ease of interacting with most NPCs, human-appearing characters are easier to handle in public "normal world" settings than otherwise, but Ashton Anchors was a recurring character, for example, and he has dragons growing from him; we go by the law of 'MOST humans are willing to excuse what they're seeing as part of a movie/makeup/terrible sad disease oh no, rather than believe in nonhumans'. So as far as that's concerned keep it in mind but w/e.
In addition, please read this post and the comments to see what RPs you can take from and so on. The gist of it is: 1) You can sign up to play with any character you currently play in CFUD, Sabra, or Aather, unless somebody else has already played them in demonverse at which point they're off-limits/belong to that player for demonverse. (This is because NPC CR is so important in demonverse that we don't want to have multiple versions of the same character there). 2) You can also play people you have since dropped from CFUD, Sabra, or Aather, as long as you have previously played them in demonverse. They're yours in demonverse, baby! 3) Just keep in mind that demonverse is an AU and don't carry any info from demonverse back to your main game ♥.
WAIT WAIT what is gameplay like, how do we get involved in plot
Demonverse is basically kind of... make-you- own plot-ty. As in, the plot is there and the NPCs are there, but the outcome is 95% based on what you do -- it's reactive gameplay. Basically, for interacting with the players, a) Zazzle and I know what the NPCs are thinking, feeling, wanting to do, and motivated by. b) we know what plot events are occurring with other characters elsewhere and why. c) We keep both those things in mind and have the NPCs and plot and events react to what the player characters choose to do. We can give examples if this is confusing but I think it is clear idk.
Sometimes we have game mechanics that ask you to contribute something by a certain time (like voting mechanics, or giving us a piece of information, or something). But mostly it's free form -- talk to people, establish CR (positive or negative), explore and learn about the environment, or ride along with other people doing the same. Because we run a reactive world, the more you choose to do the more it will react to you -- cause and effect -- but aside from those set "please vote" elements etc, you can control your degree of interaction. In the past this has (many times) changed the fate not just of a given game session but of the entire game campaign!
On a mechanical level, we usually play either on LJ or on IRC, with a preference for LJ comment threading. Examples of IRC logging are basically just Game 3 and Game 6. Some of the games are entirely RPG-campaign style, others fit inside the mechanic of a larger game (mostly Cry Wolf). If you have any questions on how any of these work, feel free to ask.
How do I learn more about Demonverse games and characters so far?
There are two main sites we store information on! The first is this very LJ page,
arsnotoria. (We USED to use
bellflowered for that purpose but it has been abandoned as an overall journal and info was transferred over). Arsnotoria is where we post ooc updates -- PLEASE follow this journal if you have an interest in demonverse as invariably any announcement will go here first. This is also where we run LJ-based game sessions or will post any IRC logs. Check the tags for relevant info (...and hope that Haru remembered to update it.)
There is also a Webpage! The webpage contains:
- Character bios for NPCs
- Game summaries
- Game log links (to journal games)
- Game log scripts (journal games converted into a text script format).
- Awesome art by the fabulous
ceesoo uwah.
Please note that Haru's in charge of updating the website and invariably forgets until last minute so it's generally about one game behind, information-wise whups. But it's up to date as of the posting of this FAQ!! I'm so cool!!
Where do you guys hang out on IRC?
#deadgaysatanists on Lunarnet.org ... forever. /never leaves chan, hobos there forever.
Bacon?

Please remember to stock up on bacon for this weekend.
THIS ISN'T A FAQ YET, I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS TO FREQUENTLY ASK!!
I am willing to answer any questions, concerns, or just ramble at you endlessly about any element you have even any slight curiosity or concerns about (unless it is spoilers, at which point I will reply with a smiley).
Just reply to this post with anything you want more info on, no matter how silly or grandiose you think the request is.
